I have eaten at hundreds of Yelp restaurants over the years. If it's 3.5 stars or up, I have a good experience the vast majority of the time. 2 star restaurants are consistently not good. So, at least from the consumer standpoint, it works for me. I have an online store, not local, and personally I don't believe that they are doing anything shady. It's hard to provide the level of transparency needed but seems to me like they are making progress.
Yelp removes bad reviews - Don't trust their ratings!!!!!!
Then again - So does trustpilot O.o

I read it occasionally, but I heard that they are not publishing negative reviews for some businesses while for others they're not publishing positive ones.
I used to love Yelp, but somehow I can't trust their reviews anymore. Plus, it's like the Netflix recommendations -- after awhile, everything gets watered down to 3 stars and its impossible to find any standout places to eat. I will continue to use them I guess.
They removed my positive feedback and kept only the negative ones for one service that I was reviewing.

Yelp has enough people posting reviews now for it to be a helpful when I am traveling or just at home looking for a place to eat on Friday night! The reviews are to the point and their review system enables me to determine for myself how near the truth they are.

I have to say, I absolutely love yelp. When I travel I use it extensively for finding good restaurants and little hidden gems of places to eat.
