We booked online in October 2013 for a two month rental to be picked up at the Brisbane (Australia) airport on January 28th, 2014. The substantial rental charges were put through immediately on our Visa rather than when the car was picked up. When we arrived in Brisbane (from Canada) to pick up the car, we were told that there were ADDITIONAL airport fees of just under $500.00. Being exhausted from the long trip, we felt that we were being held hostage as the Visa charges had already been paid and had no option but to paid the additional charges. The agent at the airport claimed that the fault was with online brokers who neglected to mention all fees. We had also spoken to an Auto Europe representative on the telephone before booking to verify the full charges for the two month rental. We feel that we did everything possible to ascertain what our car rental charges would be. We would like to give Auto Europe the opportunity to make things right before we take to the social media with our experience.
Thought I had good insurance...BUT I really needed towing insurance in case I could not get to a National Agent, especially as they could not guarantee even a spare wheel with every rental car. Not considered essential (saves money) on rental cars. So a simple puncture was going to cost me $350 for a towing truck! That's not right for a puntured tire from a reputable rental agent. Have ALL the information in your on-line package at a reasonable rate.
The rental was fine through Europcar but we ended up paying a lot more than quoted because we were quoted in Canadian Dollars and ended up paying the same amount in Euros. ie. C$780 became E 780. Ripoff!
Great car. Although needs some getting used to especially the satellite navigation system!
Realise that buying a full tank at the beginning of rental period has high risk of cash loss to hirer - unless you are very skillful at refueling, etc. I returned the car with almost $100 worth of diesel - a gift to the rental company!
I do not like the way i got nailed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Around 84 euro for returning the car 5 quarters of an hour to late. In the past I returned cars earlier than expected. I never expected at those times a discount. I was dealing for years with AutoEurope but now I am very disappointed. A little flexibility from your side should have been nice.
I received excellent service at the Dusseldorf airport. The attendant was very courteous and helpful. I also received excellent help from the staff at the parking area with my navigation system in the vehicle. The young man was very helpful in setting up the navigation in English and programming my destination in Germnay. So congratulation to the staff at the airport, for the courteous assistance.
Over the years I have always rented through Auto Europe and have strongly recommended your Company to family and friends. I will continue to do so in respect of the service and customer friendly approach from your people in the USA However I wish the same could be said about those companies who actually supply the cars in the UK. Often surly, dismissive and some what disrespectful. In particular the last rental Avis in Portsmouth area. I chose a BWM and finished with a lesser car that was difficult to drive and change gears. My earlier experience at Easter with Hertz was more pleasant but not instructive enough on the facilities in the car. I was also surprised that the prices around the Christmas/New Year period were so much higher than the Easter rental. Finally there is need for clearer explaination on persnal liability even when one takes the rental car provider's insurance.
When I got at the airport (Brussels) there was almost no light, so I didn't see the alleged damages (few scratches on the right side of the car) So, why should I pay for such damages? On the left side there was some damage, and your representative in Genova told me it happened in August 2013 and was not yet repaired....
When I came to the rental company they told me that there is additional charges that I was not aware off. If I would've known I would've not booked through you. It could of been the same price with booking direct with HERZ
while renting recently in England I experienced a warning light come on and a warning alarm sounding on my Ford Focus. Not knowing what it meant I tried refering to the handbook but found that the one supplied in the car was for a Ford Fiesta. This resulted in me not driving the car for a day until I found out what it meant. It turned out to be just a warning light sayint that the outside temperature was below 5 degrees but iI was reluctant to drive it in case it was something more serious. When i returned the csr I mentioned this but got the impression that they were not interested.
Their office was closed when we arrived. But they stayed beyond their schedule on December 31 in order to help us. All the other car rental companies were closed a long time ago. They were patient and very professional. They are to be commended.
